You Like Me! You Really Like Me!

I don’t know if this photo of Jennifer Lawrence learning about her 2011 Oscar nomination for Winter’s Bone is real or where it came from. All I know is that it showed up on Tumblr sometime last month and I can’t stop thinking about how magical and wonderful it is, for five simple reasons.

1. The matching parental bathrobes! In kneelength, no less. So risky and carefree. And also, Mom Lawrence has thrown her hands in the air and is waving them like her daughter just got an Oscar nom, and for this I love her so.

2. That hot, hugging brother of her’s. I’ve got something he can bear hug – this bowl of popcorn I just made for us to curl up with on the couch as we watch Mythbuster reruns together and spoon.

3. Silk pajama pants, a t-shirt, a sweater from Old Navey that Grandma gifted you last year, and some cheap black slippers?! Jennifer, you are wearing my wishful thinking signature look and I like it!

4. Hello, Jennifer Lawrence’s boyfriend Nick Hoult. You are in your gym clothes at 5 in the morning which means you are a maniac and you also kind of look like you’re wearing roller skates which means you are the perfect man.

5. Oh look, a movie star decorates her apartment with things purchased at Home Sense. It’s official – Jennifer Lawrence is the most likable celebrity around.

Fred Savage not to be Confused with Dan Savage

I found this picture when I was reading stuff online:

Didn't your mother ever tell you to put some pants on when you play with your clarenett. Or is that an Obo AND why on gods green earth are you SMOKING?!
Confusing if you ask me.

That's Fred Savage. Yes, Fred Savage who played Kevin from The Wonder Years. I totally forgot (CONFESSION!)  that show even existed. I'm sad to admit  that because now that i have remembered, it was a DAMN good show!

All the stars of that show grew up and did something interesting with their life. They are not in rehab, they are not plastic surgery monsters and they are out of show business, for the most part. Just thinking about the opening credits bring shivers down and spine and misty tears to my eyes. Nostalgia.

I'm tempted to go home and download all 9 seasons tonight but really, I don't have time to watch it because once I get started on it I won't want to stop. None of you will but my roommate Steve and ex-boyfriend MS will both remember that Beverly Hills 90210 phase I went through.

True Blood

"what else are we good for?"

I'm going to get in trouble for saying this but that show. I don't get it... it lost me somewhere in season 2 and I just gave up on it like I did with Lost and Hero's. I'm not a vampire lover, it does nothing for me. I can't stand the characters or the actors and the best thing about the show is the opening credit song and all the sex. True Story about True Blood. They have great sex scenes.  People are obsessed though, it's crazy. I'd much rather watch a little Californication and some Weeds mixed in with Breaking Bad and Dexter if I have time (even that show I'm pretty much done with).

That's my bitch about Sookie and all her vampy friends. The only person I really liked was the guy who turned into a dog (Sam). I like that guy, he's be the guy I'd want to date- not that Bill Compton character. Ew.

Everyone tells me that Season 2 things got weird and to try and pick it back up around season 3. I'm not sure if I'm ready. I'm not watching any TV right now, I'm too busy. Maybe come winter when I spend less time chasing butterflies and more time doing home-body things, I'll want to commit to a show or two.

Power Rangers

I don't know what makes this a postable fact but Simon Cowell produced the theme song to the Power Rangers.

Aren't you glad you learnt that fact? that might be the million dollar questions when you go on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Seasons of Love and Seasons of Michael

One of my favorite musicals RENT is playing in Calgary up till this Saturday. You may reconise this famous little number:

Video: Season of Love from RENT

I was reminded of this song a few weeks ago when I saw one of the last epsidods of The Office that included Steve Carell.

Fantastic. Oh Office.. how I love thee...

The Bloodhound Gang

you made cereal scary.

As I do, I was playing around on line going from one link to the next (it's like Choose Your Own Adventure but better!)  and I came across this:

I remember most of that, stored away in my tiny little mind I had forgotten all about it till I found that post. Even more so, I had forgotten all about The Bloodhound Gang. There was an episode that used to play that scared the living day lights out of it. It was a two parter (I can't remember if they were all that way- this one for sure though) and it was called The Case of the Cackling Ghost. In the end, I remember that science proved that the ghost wasn't real and that all was good in the world. But damn, that episode scared me so much that I was afraid of this cereal that my parents used to get me called Cracklin' Oat Bran. Cracklin' sounded too much like Cackling to me and I would have nothing to do with it.

3-2-1 CONTACT was a great little show when i was little, just as the Edison Twins were. Two of my favorites for sure! I still remember both of the opening credits.

What do you remember?

Oh my goodness, looking through some of the comments from the first link I posted, people were talking about the opening credits for The Tomorrow People- yes, that too is ingrained in my head as frightening.

Confession: I Watched The Rockets

We're going to make it after all....

When I was little I used to love this show called The Rockets, it was a Canadian show... a really bad one all about singing and dancing. I use to watch it and just ache to be one of them. I was so inspired that I started my own singing and dancing group in elementary ( we were called "The Popcorn Girls"- true story). I would get everyone together at recess to practice Mini-Pop songs and dance the way I wanted everyone to dance. It was a mess, a glorious fantastic mess that I would put on display for the whole school at talent shows or the whole class every other week. I think back now and I can't believe my teachers would let me. It must have been painful to watch.

And this was only the singing and dance thing I had people do. I also wrote plays (my favorite was one called "What 'cha Cooking Mama" and "Dad Makes Toast") and reenacted Anne of Green Gables, Cats and Phantom of the Opera.

TV gave me lots of ideas as a kid. I remember watching an episode of Pippy Long Stockings where she used a hose to wash the floor in the house... so I did that. I knew it wasn't right (at least not in Canada, maybe in Trinidad and Tobago) but I did it anyway. Just as Pippy did, I put scrub brushes on my feet and skated around the kitchen and the bathroom upstairs ( I used buckets of water to dump ridicules amounts of water on the floor). It was nothing like on TV. I wasn't propelled by bubbles neither was the room filled with bubbles... I don't even think there were bubbled. Just this frothy foam on the ground- if that. Nothing gleamed and it took about 4 hours to finally dry everything out. How disappointing.

Do you remember the show The Rockets?
Did you ever start weird little groups and put on shows with your friends?
Did TV ever "inspire" you to do anything as a child?

Candy Finnigan and Dagblog

It was either this or Chuck Norris. I'm so over Chuck- actually I don't think I ever started.
Natalie Dee on the other hand... fantastic!

It's 3:30pm, my boss went home about a half hour ago and I just finished a project I was working on. It's prime Internet time! I first Googled the name Candy Finnigan who is an Interventionist on A&E's reality TV show Intervention. I wanted to check the spelling of her name ( was writing something to my friend Laura) and I was also curious about her histry. A hit showed up for Wikipedia so I followed it. It sent me to Mike Finnigan's page where I learnt that Candy is married to a very well respect musician who has toured with the likes of Etta James, Lenoard Cohen, Jimi Hendrix, Taj Mahal, etc... and somehow I ended up from there on this other blog called dagblog, actually...now that I think hard about it I think they had written a story about Candy on there which I found interesting.

So anyway, I just wanted to mention that I really like this blog called dagblog, I find that it resonates well with my own thoughts and opinions (which more often than not I keep to myself. I find my school of thought to be somewhat unpopular and there is always a time and place for challenging conversation- just often "right now" isn't the right time) as well as my sense of humor.

I was in a sharing mood and thought I would pass the link along to you. If you follow my own blog of hodgepodge and nonsense this may or may not interest you. But if it does, this is my Happy Friday gift to you. If not, then you can enjoy my previous post on how Honey is Bee vomit and if that doesn't do anything for you then well, let me know what you want to talk about and I will talk about it.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Hell Week is almost done (it actually got a lot better Wednesday and things have been looking up ever since!) so I might be more regular is my posts next week.

PS: I have no idea what image to put with this post so I might just Google "random image" and see what I come up with.

24 Hour Chicken Channel

Feeling hot and saucy.

According to the CBC, starting Monday, Swiss Chalet will fire up a constant televised loop of 12 roasters turning on a spit to promote the chain. Talk about mesmerizing. Twelve saucy, golden, barbecued chickens going round and round and round and round.

*grumble goes the tummy monster.

*"why?" goes the goes the rational monster.

Happy Friday everyone...

(yes, this is my post for today. I not feeling 100% -totally fighting a cold- so brain is dead and I'm just totally fatigued. So end result, post about a chicken channel.)

[Hat Tip to the CBC for the original article]

Eggs

Because how hard is it to poach a god damn egg properly? Seriously, that's like eggs 101 Woodhouse.

I can't remember when I learnt about eggs. I think I might have been with John and he had picked up a book all about eggs or perhaps it was someone whom a conversation had been had. A chef who had said "the true test of a chefs talent is shown in how they poach eggs". Doesn't matter, all I know is I learnt about eggs. I learnt how to hard cook a proper egg and all the variables from how to ensure the shell comes of as cleanly as a glove to preventing the oxidization of the yolk (you know what I mean, when the yellow part gets that unpleasant black discoloration). I learnt how to make the perfect omelet and of course, I know the tell tale marks of a perfect poached egg so it keeps it's shape, isn't rubbery and has a nice yolk perfect for dipping toast.

How to Poach an Egg:
To poach one or more eggs, bring an inch or two of water to a gentle boil in a skillet big enough to accommodate the number of eggs you’re cooking. (It’s best to do no more than 3 at a time – too many eggs will crowd the pan and cool down the water.) Ensure that there is enough water to fully cover the egg. Add a a teaspoon of vinegar, which isn’t necessary  but will lower the PH of the water helping the egg to hold its shape by causing the outer layer of the egg white to congeal faster. Without it, the eggs will become skeins of protein tangling up in the water. Reduce the heat to a simmer – the point at which the water barely bubbles – a rough, rolling boil will make your eggs go all over the place when you crack them in. If the water is too cool, the egg will separate apart before it cooks; if your water is too hot, you will end up with tough whites and an over-cooked yolk. You will want to bring the water to a temperature of about 160 to 180ºF (71-82ºC).

Gently break your eggs into the water and as they start to set, spoon the water over the tops of the yolks to help them cook. Do not drop the egg into boiling water (212ºF or 100ºC). This will negatively affect the taste and texture of your eggs. If they stick to the bottom of the pan, loosen them with a thin spatula. Poach your eggs for 3-4 minutes, until the whites are firm and the yolks have filmed over. Remove them from the water with a slotted spoon and transfer them to buttered toast or onto a paper towel to drain.

TIP:
If you’re having company and need to cook poached eggs for a crowd: you can poach eggs in advance, and keep them in a bowl of cold water in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat them by dipping them into a saucepan of simmering water for about 30 seconds.

A poached egg makes a quick meal of sautéed greens or leftover grains (rice, barley, quinoa) or try a poached egg on top of a burger or pizza. They aren't just for toast anymore!

Big Brother 12- Week Three

this isn't goodbye, it's להתראות

Andrew the Jewish foot doctor just stuck his foot in his mouth and chocked on it all the way out the door. I am so sad to see him go. He was great- the little bit that we did get to see (aside from the hissy fits of week three) he was pretty fun in a glorious geeky way. Nothing better than a man with a good case of tidy to get my ol' heart pumping. I'd love to Windex the Windows and vacuum the floors with him- we'd make a great team. Go Team Clean!

We also saw a bit of what the producers saw in Lane that made them want to put him on the show.

This little video is the BEST part of week three- watch it all the way through. Do it.

  • First minute and 20 seconds- Andrew cleaning

  • the next 2 minutes and 20 seconds- Veto Choices (this may be boring but it's worth it for the next part)

  • The next 4 minutes Der Bergade's alliance shooting the shit. Sans Hayden the Hanson Brother.Awesome

A side from that the rest of the week was super lame.

Cookies of the Week
  • Britney the small town back stabbing blond (She's funny and needs waaaaay more camera time)
  • Lane for just being awesome- just like Britney
  • Andrew

Mud Puddles of the Week
  • Fun Bags Rachel for yelling at Andrew for "getting between her and her man!" ugh.
  • Anyone in a showmance- no more showmance!
  • Matt the Smart Mensa Guy for having stupid choices to put up on the chopping block.

I'm writing this half way through week four so I can tell you that things get better and a lot worse. Also they did have the last 2 evicted House Guests in sequester but they released them all when Andrew was booted on Sunday. So, we will not be see the return of Annie, the hot bi-chick.

That is all for now. Good Night Everybody.

Big Brother 12- Week Two

Nothing ruins the mood of a sexy haircut like a Jewish Foot Doctor cleaning up after you.

Okay, truth be told... with the chaos of this weekend I didn't watch Sunday's episode of Big Brother until last night. Friday's episode was watched after midnight and I kind of fell a sleep and to be 100% honest- this season is kind of boring. SO FAR- I've been told to hold on, that it should get better once the first eviction happen and the drama starts. All that stuff has happened and all they keep showing is the stupid, disgusting "gross-mance" between Fun Bags and her boy toy Brendon the Swim Coach (which we found on has bug clumsy feet). Yetch! I swear... and now with Kristen and that Hayden guy who looks like a Hanson brother (Am I showing my age now?). Big Brother- please. At least we see a little risky game skill coming from Matt the Smart Mensa Guy, even though I don't really like that guy.

So really all that we saw this week was a lot of making out between the showmances, Fun Bags Rachel giggling, catty girl fights and crying. Monet and Britney the small town back stabbing blond were up on the block but then Brit got the power of Veto by getting tired at just the right moment. Which in turn Matt the Smart Mensa Guy volunteered to be put up in her place as a "pawn". This kind of blew up in his face but not really... he still ended up staying and Monet was sent-a-walking.

I must admit, Andrew the Jewish foot doctor is really growing on me. He is my favorite House Guest so far with his geeky composer and ability to make a potentially sexy situation awkward- love him! I do suspect right now though that Brendon the Swim Coach and Andrew the Jewish Foot Doctor might know each other. They might be the secret alliance that "the saboteur" exposed and no seems to care about anymore.

Cookies of the Week

  • *Gold Star* Andrew the Jewish Foot Doctor for being so awesome
  • anyone NOT involved in the Der Bergade's alliance or a showmance
  • Monet for think 60 x 60 is 1200 (yes, she gets a cookie for that one even though she was SO wrong  but it was SO funny)

Mud Puddles of the Week
  • Matt the Smart Mensa Guy for lying about a "condition" his wife has.
  • Monet, Britney the small town back stabbing blond , and Fun Bags all for crying and being so catty
  • Anyone involved in the Der Bergade's alliance or a showmance

Not much else to say, here's hoping that week three gets a little more interesting.

I'd like to see more of Britney the small town back stabbing blond, I think she has a pretty sharp personality that would be fun. I'd just like to see less of Fun Bags. Period. And that is on all levels.

Big Brother 12- Week One

Annie (L) and Fun Bags (R)

Truth be told, I love bad TV... not all bad TV but a fair bit of it. My #1 guilty pleasure if Big Brother which started again for another summer on Sunday.

This year we have 14 house guest, one of them being "the saboteur". In classic Big Brother style we have a plethora of attractive, self involved people who generally have a knack for being two faced and  back stabbing.

Tonight was no different. We had the first eviction night of the season. On the block were two lovely ladies Rachel (or Fun Bags as I like to call her) and Annie (cute bi-girl). Annie wasn't on the block originally because Fun Bags was having a "Showmance" with Brendon (the swim coach) and so they were put up on the block together. But of course, Brendon the Swim Coach won the Power Of Veto and took him self off the block in which Annie was put on.   There is some stupid boy alliance with these three guys that all kind of look the same to me. One of them was Head of House Hold but that doesn't really matter because they all seem rather boring at the moment. One guy, Matt (Smart Mensa guy)  who claims to be in the top 2% of intelligent people and a member of Mensa ... he has some potential for being interesting.

So anyways, it is revealed that Annie is " the saboteur" which kind of sucks because she is also on the block with a good chance of going home. She pulls out all the stops to try and win the votes to stay in the house but for some stupid reason no one goes for it and it's a shut out with 10 votes to evict Annie. Keeping crazy Fun Bags in the house who then goes on to win HOH. Isn't that always how it works? Lame...

They'll regret the decision of evicting Annie, I'm sure... at least until they find out that she was the saboteur.

On a side note, Fun Bags goes a bit nuts over her 10 day showmance and totally pulls a crazy psycho girl on the swim coach demanding that she have 100% of his attention. Ew, some one's a little insecure.

Cookies of the Week
Annie the cute bi girl
Ragan the gay college Prof
Andrew the Jewish foot doctor

Mud Puddles of the Week
Fun Bags Rachel
Brendon the Swim Coach
Britney the small town back stabbing blond

Honorable Mention:
Kathy the cop for getting stuck in vat of caramel for 80 minutes. It's the food challenge, do you want to be on slop? If I was her I would do everything possible to get the heck out of there. I'd take my clothes off if I had to! I am NOT eating any Big Brother Slop!

Sorry to see you go Annie, would have liked to have seen more of your shenanigans

Everyone else, please try to be a bit more interesting and please, no more showmances for the next little while. They are kind of lame...

So that concludes my thoughts for this week. I'm sure by next week I'll be on a totally different team but for now- Go Team Everyone Other Than Fun Bags!

Oh and on a side note... I have a sneaky feeling that because there are only 14 house guests someone who is evicted might get to come back. They have done it in previous seasons and it might happen again. Maybe Annie is off to sequester? Maybe not... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

What was your take on the first week?

Confessions: i hate glee

I do like Quinn's long eyelashes

I'm sorry. I had to say it, I tried I really did... but I just can't. I hate Glee. I watched the first 13 episodes and then they lost me. I am not and won't ever be a Gleek. Originally, it was the razor sharp writing and tongue in cheek humor. Irony around every corner and enduring side show characters. Most of those characters still exist (I have a major soft spot for the talent of Chris Colfer who plays Kurt Hummel and Jane Lynch who plays Sue Sylvester)but are finding themselves is redundant, predictable situations. It's like watching cold honey pour.

*sigh*

I have to admit though, I caught last weeks episode where they focused on Lady Gaga. The highlight aside from Kurt's solo was the rebirth of Beth by KISS.

Video from YouTube Beth by KISS (live)

I'd forgotten how much I love that simple little power ballad. I love it so much that Saturday night i was up till the wee hours listening to it and downloading other such ballads from long ago rockers. It's my latest Music Obsession. Beth, you are never going to be the same I'm afraid.

Glee- just don't mess with my Eagles, Zeppelin and Supertramp. The rest is fair game.

Thank you.

Evoluntion of Dance

Thanks to episode 17/18 of The Office (US) I have been introduced to one of the "most watched" videos on You Tube- and I have NEVER seen it never mind even heard of it:

The Evolution of Dance: Judson Laipply
Excellent, but still not as good as Charlie Bit My Finger or Panda Sneeze OR TALKING DOGS!
Good times. GOOD times!

I'm Stuck

My foot is stuck in my keyboard cord and my head is stuck for inspiration. blah. I don't like it when I want to write but have nothing with any theme to write so I just end up complaining about not having anything to say.. hohummm....

Lunch just finished 46 minutes ago and I am hungry again. I made a grilled cheese and warmed up some tomato soup- it was good. I also had some mini carrots, 2 yogurts and a piece of fruit but I am still hungry. I want a hamburger- I blame that Brazilian BBQ place for revamping my taste for meat. I haven't had a hamburger in years... turkey burgers don't count.

I'm currently reading a fluff book right now (this is a bonus because I've been put off reading for the last little while) called Bright Shiny Morning. I'm enjoying the balance between outlandish fictional characters and the threads of non-fiction woven through the book. I'm three quarters of the way through and when done I will start my next fluff book called Pillars of the Earth. Over the weekend I was lucky to have had a day out in the woods spent reading in front of the fireplace. I am reminded of a family vacation that we took years ago to a place called Cannon Beach in Oregon. We had a place right on the beach and every morning I would read- when chilly by the fireplace and when warm on the beach. I went through a book a day. I also remember eating Ukrainian food for the first time.

It snowed a lot this morning, I had to wear my unfashionable but totally functional coat to work- lame. They said the snow would stop by the afternoon but I don't really see much of a change yet. I bet Vancouver is jealous of all the snow because I hear that they haven't had much luck with it so far for the Winter Olympics.

Speaking about the Winter Olympics, I watched a medal ceremony yesterday at work. Are they giving the winners bouquets of skunk cabbage? I'm serious! Actually I just did a Google search and found THIS article which explains things. And THIS article goes into even further detail. My oh My! (after reading through everything I have learnt that the Olympic Bouquets are actually Green Mums and Hypericum Berries)

That reminds me, I need a Bad TV Intervention. No, I don't need Intervention the TV show to come and get me... I just need someone to come and intervene in my bad TV watching situation. The sickness has gone from Big Brother (I've watched ALL 11 seasons in a row... ) to Jersey Shore (yes, it gets worse) to now Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew- oooh my! I feel my IQ getting lower and lower but I can't stop, I need help! The reason that reminds me is there is a tree that is often seen at the front of Pasadena Rehabilitation Center that is kind of strange. It has these giant pods on them and I don't know if it's fruit or what it is. Oh California, with your crazy exotic foliage and crazier messed up celebrities.

That is my babble for today, I'm going to go make some toast because MAN am I hungry!

Cookies Are A RIGHT NOW Food

Yesterday we had Big Birds Licorice Alsorts legs standing in all their pink and yellow glory in front of the Google Icon- today we have MY personal favorite COOKIE MONSTER!

Oh Cookie Monster, how I identify with you so. Your passion for the sweeter things in life and inability to keep your monster self under control when in the presence of COOKIES (oh the things I have done for cookies, I am sure you can relate) or anything round-ish in shape. The last few years you have been given a lot slack, much like Barbie, for contributing to health issues in today's youth. Some may disagree with me however I believe that it has nothing to do with you, people just want to blame a monster- ANY monster and you just happen to fir the bill. It takes a big man to succumb to so much criticism. I appreciate your honesty when you appeared on The Colbert Report stating that you are the Robert Downey Jr. of Cookies and had "crazy times" in the 70's and 80's.

Oh Cookie Monster, how the ladies love you...

All the ladies except for Prairie Dawn

PS: Is it wrong of me to want to give Cookie Monster a good brushing?
